Nevada Economy 2012: The Role of the State's Mining Industry

On September 6, 2012, Applied Analysis Principal Analyst Jeremy Aguero spoke on the Nevada economy and the role that mining plays at the Nevada Mining Association's annual convention in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Aguero's presentation, entitled Nevada Economy 2012: The Role of the State's Mining Industry, provided an overview of national, regional and state economic conditions, followed by a focus on the mining industry and its economic, fiscal, community and environmental impacts on the state of Nevada. The analysis took into account the results of an industry-wide survey conducted by Discovery Nevada, AA's survey research division. The analysis concluded that while the mining industry accounts for a relatively small portion of the state's employment, its contributions to personal incomes, economic activity, and state and local tax revenues are significant.
